Show Bingham-Delta Fight Today In State Class B Football Semifinals MINERS AND JACKRABBITS MEET FOR THIRD TIME IN FOUR YEARS. GAME WILL COMMENCE AT 2:30 P.M. For the third time in four years Bingham and Delta will lineup as state class B high school football semifinalists, the big game being booked at Copperton stadium at 2:30 p.m. today, Friday, Park City defeated Lincoln yesterday in the other semifinal. Delta, as Region Four class B champions, and Bingham, Bing-ham, with Jordan district's B honors already in the trophy case, each for the first time attained playoffs in 1938, when Delta advanced to the finals by a 19-7 win over Bingham and went on to achieve their first state football title. The next year the Miners and Jackrabbits faced each other again in the semifinal round, Bingham winning 18-6. The Miners at U. of U. stadium gained their first state B title in 1939 by defeating American Fork, 13 to 0. Region Standing! Delta has won all four games of Region Four, scoring 150 points to their opponents' six. Bingham, traveling in a district that offers faster and tougher football competition, has won, five and lost two games, the two Josses being to Jordan and Granite, Gran-ite, both class A schools. Bingham Bing-ham has piled up 96 points, second sec-ond only to Jordan's 154 points in district play, and has been scored against to the tune of 48 points, which can be compared to Jordan's 45. 35 of the 48 points were scored by Jordan when they defeated the Miners, 35-20. Santistevan has piloted the Miners' squad to the district B championship for the fourth time in five years. Last Friday's 20-6 win over Davis Da-vis gained for Bingham their fourth straight district title. Jack Thurmond toted the ball formances against Tooele. Delta won over the latter team 12-8 and Bingham scored a 6-0 victory vic-tory over the Tooele crew. There are a dozen veterans on the Delta crew, outstanding being be-ing Captain Thurman Moody and Halfback Verrue Theobald. |
