Citing many specific instances where bureaucratic control and federal withdrawal with-drawal had) effectually prevented development devel-opment in thin state, Governor Spry appeared beforo the house public lands committee today in support of the resolutions res-olutions pnssed by the governors ' conference con-ference ut Denver recently. Ho followed fol-lowed Governor Animous of Colorado, who took up the greater part of tho dav aloug the satno lilies. Governor Spry, illustrating his contentions, con-tentions, told the committee how the withdrawal of landu in Utah had prevented pre-vented the development of one of the slate's largest irrigation projects, the Kio Virgin project in southern Utah. Memibers of the committee wore much impressed by tho governor's recital of how, after tho surveys and estimates had been completed for this big project, tho federal government had completely stopped further developments by withdrawing with-drawing the lands? on account of oil. because someone had started to drill there.
