HISTORIC CRUISER IS BADLY DAMAGED PORTLAND, Ore.. March 3. In a harbor har-bor collision here today the historic cruiser Boston, credited with having fired the first Bhot at Manila on the morning of May 1, 1E98. was damaged to the extent ex-tent of about $3000. The Yucatan, frolght liner, bore down on the picturesque warrior, war-rior, now used as a training ship of tho Oregon naval militia, smashing one of tho six-Inch guns, tearing off the 3team launch and tho davits and otherwise battering bat-tering the nrmored craft. A piano on the cruiser was smashed by the big gun as it swung around. The Yucatan emerged practically unscathed. Tho failure fail-ure of tho freighter to rospond to the helm as quickly as expected caused tho collision.
