TJ 32 Granite 19 Prepa 8 Athletes from Granlto high school, Salt Lako high school and the L. D, S. participated par-ticipated in the Salt Lako division track and field meet yesterday afternoon on 'Cummlngs field. The track was not In tho boat condition and but slow time wa3 made In several events. The Salt Lake high school team easily won tho meet with a totnl of 58 points to Its nearest 'competitor, L. D. 8. TJ., which scored 32 points. Granlto and the University of Ulah preparatory school also figured In tho result with 19 to S points, respectively. The athlotes who won points Jn this meet will now start preparing for the Invitation In-vitation meet next month. Other divisions di-visions throughout the state will ulso be represented, and from several performances perform-ances made yesterday It will be no surprise sur-prise to see several records broken. Half-mile Exciting. Undoubtedly the most cxlctlng event of tho afternoon was the finish in tho SSO-yard SSO-yard ran. Coining around the last curve In tho final lap, Berry of the University of Utah prop school and Alhert Paul of the L. D. S. U. were fighting hard to pass each other. Both boys were running run-ning strong and when they crossed the tapo several Judges declared it a dead heat. After some discussion, the race waa awarded to Berry. Tho time was 2 minutes and 13 2-5 seconds, Stephen Kerr finished third In excellent condition. condi-tion. With Kerr, Berry and Paul In the big meet, It is safe to predict that the race will bo a good one. After another hard run, Paul won from Born.' In the mile. In the 100-yard dash, Roy SIddoway finished fin-ished first, after a hard battle with Robert Rob-ert Collier, also of tho high hchool- Both boys did well and should be able to land a place In the "U" meet. Klngsley Clow-son Clow-son of tho L. D. S. U. won third place. The time made by SIddoway was 11 2-5 sccondHs In tho 220 Collier won, Siddowcy was second and Horace Grant of the Ij. D. S. U. finished a close third. Tho tlmo wa3 21 seconds flat. Grant of the I,. D. S. U. won tho 440 after a. hard raco with Pat King of tho high school, who won second sec-ond place. Clawson of the U D- S. rj. won third place. Time, 65 1-5 seconds. High School Wins Relay. In tho relay race, the Salt Lake high school won. Tho team was composed of Roy SIddoway, Kenneth Barnes. Wllford Romney and Robert Collier. The final time was 1 minute and 34 seconds. Carl Peterson of the high school won tho 220 hurdlo race. Hamilton of Granite Gran-ite and Fletcher of tho Salt Lake high finished second nnd third, respectively, Peterson's time was 2S 2-5 second?. In the field events, Stanley Johnson stood out as the shining star, as ho 1 scored 10 points for tho west sldcrs. .Johnson won first In both tho shot put and tho broad Jump. His performance In the broad Jump was a big surprise to many and ho is picked to win the event in tho university meet. Ills record was 21 feet and 2S Inches. In the shot-put ho made 40j feet. Parkinson of the L. D. S. U. and Tay of tho high school won second and third. Parkinson and String-fellow, String-fellow, bopi of the L. D. S. U., finished second and third In tho shot put. Johnson John-son wno the highest point winner of the meet. In tho high Jump. Don Mayne of the west side took first place with a mark of 5 fct and 2 IncheH. Herb Tay.
