Show BLANKET SIGN BDND IS OFFERED TO CITY Proposal of Utah Light & Railway Company May Be Satisfactorily Adjusted. The city commission bas practically agreed to accept the offer of the Utah Light & Railway compay to furnish the city a blanket bond for $50,000 to protect the municipality against liability arising from the presence of electric Hlgns over tho streets and sidewalks of the business district. Under tho prcsont system each racr-oliant racr-oliant Is forced to file an annual bond for his sign, and as a result bonds aggregating aggre-gating more -than $1,000,000 are on file with the city. The premiums on these bonds total many hundreds of dollars. The city had planned to relieve the morchants from this expense by taking out a blanket bond In an amount large enough to protect the city against any liability when the railway company made its offer. The chief objection of this offer -was that the company required that In case the city accepted the offer it must force owners of signH to keep them burning at least four hours each night during tho winter and two hours each night during the summer. Whether suoh a. condition could bo Imposed was doubted by the commission, but a -way out of tho question ques-tion has been found. All merchants -who are willing io comply com-ply with the provision requiring that tho signs bo kept lighted will be allowed lo withdraw their Individual bonds and have protection under the blanket bond. Those not wishing to enter such an agreement can continue to furnish their own bonds. |
