This announcement was made .yesterday at the oflicc of K. 15. Calvin, vice president presi-dent and general manager of tho Oregon Ore-gon Short Line. It was also aunounccd that A O. Hinckley, master mechanic of the western division of the Southern Pacific, with headquarters in Oakland, will succeed Mr. Dunn. The ofliees of tho superintendent of motive power and machinerj', which during Mr, l)unii;s administration have been in tho local general ofliees, will bo moved to Pocntollo, Idaho, with Itic commencement of Mr. Hincldoy's in-i in-i cuuibency. The reason assigncdTor the e.hauge is tho fact that the tfonipany has built large shops and yards at Poca-tcllo, Poca-tcllo, and it is thought "that it will bc a better location for the work of the motivo power department. The reason nssignc-d by Mr. T)uun for resigning is ill health. Officials of the road say that his service has been a long and faithful one and ho has wished for some time to be relieved of his duties. Ho has financial interests in Salt Lake, and it is understood that ho will retire altogether .from activo.work. His homo is here and ho plans to remain re-main here, although he will probably take an extended vacation after May j. Born in New York. Mr. Dunn was born November 27. 1S5-J, at Shaneatelcs. X. Y. lie entered railroad service' in 1S70 as a machinist helper for the Central Pacific in tho Sacramento shops. From JS75 to July, 1S90, ho was in turn machiuist, tircnian, engineer, shop foromau and division foreman of the Union Pacific. From July, 1S90, to August 1, lS9n, ho was master mechanic of the Idaho division of tho Union Pacific, and from tho latter lat-ter date lo March, 1897, master mo-chauic mo-chauic of the Idaho and Utah divisions of the Oregon Short Line and Utah Northern. March 1. JS97, he was niado superintendent of 'motive power and machinery for tho Oregon "Short Line. This title was later changed fito assistant as-sistant general manager iu charge of mechanics, but early this year his old title was given him back when the various assistant general manager titles wero dispensed with. Mr. Hiuekloy, who lakes his placo. was for many .years traveling engineer for tho Oregon Short Lino, and' was master mechanic of the road when he resigned, about ton years ago, to take the" position which ho now "leaves to como to Salt Lake, Mr. Dunn is now in Hot Springs, Ark., whore ho has been sinco April 7, seeking to recover his health. Hinklcy's appointment to the position of supcrlntaendcnt of motive power for the Oregon Short Line system sys-tem was received with gratification by his manv friends among the railroad men of this city. Although-air. TTlnkley has never made his headquarters In Ogdcn he Is nevertheless well known here by reason of his connection with tho t'nlon Pacific, Oregon Short Lino and Southern Pacific railroads In past ycarsx Ho Is at tho present time master mechanic for the Southern Paclllo at Oakland, Cal. Mr. Hlnkley begin his railroad career In the west and his first promotion to n position of Importance camo twenty-five years ago, when ho became assistant su perintendent ot motive power tor inc Union Pacific at Cheyenne, Wyo. In 1890 he resigned from that position to become be-come master mechanic of the Oregon Short L.ine at Salt Take City. After two years in Salt Ijake he accepted the position of goneral master mechanic for the SI. Joseph Jo-seph & Grand Island railroad, with headquarters head-quarters at St. Joseph, Mo. Ho remained with that road for eight years, going to the Pere Marquette- In 1900 to take charge of motive power of Hint road. For three or four yea if. or until the consolidation consoli-dation with the Baltimore & Ohio, air. ITlnklcy remained with the Pere aiar-quette, aiar-quette, when hq entered the cetvlro of tho Southern Pacific.
