As a result of negotiations nego-tiations betweon the city's legal department depart-ment and the property owners, the city ha been enabled to purchase, much of the land required to open Twenty-ninth street from Washington avenue to Pacific Pa-cific avenue, and Sixteenth street from Washington to Ogden avenues. In taking tak-ing up the proposed opening of streets in this manner the legal department is profiting by its experience In the condemnation con-demnation proceedings lu connection with the recent opening of Hudson avenue. Several purchases havo been made In the Twenty-ninth street project, but there are a few instances where the city representatives rep-resentatives and properly owners have been unable to come to an agreement regarding the price. In these eases the matter will bo put up to a board of arbitration, arbi-tration, or the city will appeal to the courts for settlements by condemnation. . A suit was filed this morning for the condemnation of certain property owned by Jennie Shaw and which Is needed for the opening of Sixteenth street. It is tepresented In the complaint Hint the property Is needed for street purposes and that the city has been unable to reach an agreement with the owner regarding re-garding the price to bo paid. The proposed opening of Twenty-ninth street lias been petitioned for by the property owners in that section of the city and the necessary stops taken by means of a resolution passed by the city council. |
