After a long illness Mrs. Matilda Folkman., wife cf Jens E. Folk-man, Folk-man, died at her home in Plain City yesterday yes-terday afternoon. Mrs. Folkman was a mpmbor of one of the handcart companies which came to Utah in the early days across the trackless track-less deserts. She was bom at Bornhohn. Denmark, December '9. 1S36. and embraced em-braced the Mormon faith In 1S54. Three years later oho was married to Jans P. Folkman. another convort of Mormonlsm. and Immediately made proparatlons 10 come, to this country with her husband. Arriving at Florence. la., they found themselves 1300 miles from Utah. A handcart company was formed and the couple began the long Journey to Utah across the wastes of an unknown country. coun-try. They arrived at Salt Lake City September 13. iS.Vf. Thence they removed to Lehl. where tho winter was spent. During tho spring of 1S50 they reached Plain City. In Weber county, being among the first settlers in that section. Mr. Folkman had always taken an active part In church affairs, having been a prominent worker of the Relief society tip to the limo of her death. She held every position In the society. Including the presidency. Mrs. Folkman was the mother of t.wclve children, live of whom survive her: George P. Folkman. Peter M. Folkman. Ilebcr N. Folkman. Margaret Thatcher and Clarissa B. McMacken. Her husband. Jens P.
