Show TODAY'S CONVENTIONS. Today, will be hold two memorable conventions of tho American party: Tho county convention, to begin at 10 o'clock this morning in the Colonial the-ntcr, the-ntcr, and tho Stato convention at the same place this evening. Wc place tho county convention first partly because it comes first an order of time, and partly because it will be tho more important of tho two for the American party, in viow of the reasonable hope of success this party may justly havo at the coming com-ing election. Success in the Stato, of course, is out of tho question this year, but with iho growth of American sentiment sen-timent as noted in The Tribuno'c columns col-umns from time to time, the triumphant day of American principles, and in fact of the American party, in Utah cannot can-not bo much longer delayed. But in the county, wo win this year. Wc take this final occasion to speak a last word in tho same lino that we havo spoken heretofore on tho absolute abso-lute necessity of selecting none but the best and fittest men for tho various po sitions to be filled at the ensuing election. elec-tion. The prime point im a.11 is to select se-lect Jirst-class candidates, thoso whose character, ability and standing will insure in-sure their favorable reception by the people, and will be the best possible argument ar-gument that can be presented for success suc-cess in the campaign. Besides this, other considerations naturally como in. The apportionment of the ticket as far as ma' bo among tho diffcront inter-eslsi inter-eslsi and classes involved is important. Geographical position is also entitled to consideration, and doubtless the delegates dele-gates will have all these things in mind when they cast their ballots for the different dif-ferent candidates in tho order of the different oAices lo bo filled as these come up for action. The county convention is a great opportunity op-portunity to do splendid work for the American causo today, and not doubting doubt-ing that it will measure up in its action to the full requirements of the situation, situa-tion, wo commend theso reflections to the attention of the delegates when they assemble and during their action officially for the party today and tonight. |
