Show GHARGED KITH SHARPSW1NDLE Police Arrest Man Who Made Dunes of Many Produce Farmers. MAV BE B ISM AN WANTED BV FEDERAL AUTHORITIES Bought Eggs at, High Prices, Sold at Low, and Paid Nobody. In tho arrest of H. H. .llcudricksou, alias C. M. Wooda, who was taken into custody by Motoreyolo Patrolman Dan Grundvig shortly before 7 o'clock Tuesday Tues-day night, charged with falsely representing repre-senting himself ns a partner of ."lolin Ilolley, a well-known local commission man. the police boltovo that' tkey have the B. S. "Bisman, for whom tho government gov-ernment authorities are looking for us-ing us-ing the Unicod States maila to defraud farmers of this and neighboring states. B. S. Bisman, as tho hoad of the "Bisman Produce company," which was supposed io bo located at 1025 South Stale street", last spring defrauded de-frauded tho farmers of this and neighboring neigh-boring states out of about $8000 by means of the United States mails. IIo did this by mailing orders for eggs, butter and poultry, which ho is supposed sup-posed t'o have roccived and disposed of, and then skipped out without pa3'ing his bills when the officials began to ''get wise." llis actions caused somewhat some-what of a sensation in tho city at tho time, but nothing has .been heard of him since until the arrest of Hcudriek-son Hcudriek-son Tuesday night furnished something of a clue. Mr. Hollo' recently loarncd, through a misshipmcnt of eggs consigned to the firm "Ilolley & Wood, 1S21 ISast Third South streot, " that Ilcndriekson. or Wood, was representing himself as Flolley's partner. The address of the firm, "which is a vacant lot, is outside of the delivery limits of the express company, but instead of the eggs being retained at' the express office, according to Hendrickson 's plans, they wore sent io tho John Ilolley Produce company. Thoy were sent by "J. L, Snow of Provo bench, with whom Sir. Ilolley does considerable con-siderable dealing. Caught When Eecoiving Check. Upon the receipt of the eggs Mr. Ilolley discovered that Ilcndriekson was using his name, and immediately set out' to investigate the matter. Going Go-ing to the express office, Mr. Ilolley learned that Ilcndriekson, through the same firm name, wns supplying Nelson & TJieks, another Salt Ltiko produce company, with eggs. IIo also lcarued that Ilcndriekson, or Wood, was nor.' delivering de-livering his goods personally, but upon finding a customer for them' would send an expressman to tho express company's pfiico with instructions as to where to take them. Having thus disposed of his goods, ho would telophone t'o his customer to find out when the check would bo ready, and having ascertained this, would then send ti messengfier bo3r for the check. Upon learning wtmt Nelson" & Picks wcro dealing with Hendrickson, Mr. Ilolley notified Chief of Police Samuel M. Barlow, and when he discovered that a messenger boy was going to Nelson & Picks Tuesday afternoon about G o'clock, he arranged with Chief Barlow Bar-low to have an officer follow the messenger mes-senger boy and catch Hendrickson. Patrolman Grundvig was put on the case, and, following tho messenger boy fo a point on South State street, caught Hendrickson when tho check was delivered de-livered to him, and placed him under arrest. isismairs .Name Occurs. When taken to tho police station Hendrickson admitted that ho had made throe crooked deals, but asserted that these were all. However, in his possession was found a notebook which in several places contained the name of CB. S. Bisman, dealer in eggs, butter and poultry," and "Tho Bisman Produce company." This leads the police to the thorny that Hendrickson is the B. S. Bisman whom tho federal authorities want for using the United States mails for fraudulent practices Inst spring. Postoflico Inspector Nelson will bo notified of the matter Wcdnes day, und an investigation will be had. Employed Queer Methods. Hendrickson 's plan, so far as the police po-lice wore able to learn Tuesday night, was to bargain for tho purchase of eggs tit a figure much higher than the dealers ordinarily pay, and then sell them at a lower figure. Of course, ho collected tho money when the sales were made, but whether or not he paid the producers is a matter of conjecture. Ho is said to have contracted for eggs from the Mnplot'on Co-operativo Mercantile Mer-cantile company at Mapleton for $7.50 a ense and sold thorn in this city for $0.25 a case. Mr. Ilolley is in possession of the knowledge that ho got one consignment from the X L. Snow company of Provo bench and one from tho Mapleton Cooperative Co-operative Mercantile company. Another shipment from the latter company, it is said, should have arrived Tuesday, but did not. Hendrickson seems to be a smooth proposition, and the police believe that they have a clover follow at tho game. |
