World's records were shattered and sport spectacular enough to please the most blase fan was furnished at tho Salt Palace saucer track Tuesday night. Jackie Clarke, the Australian wizard, was the sensation of the meeting and the spectators wont wild over his victories Clarke's greatest triumph was his race against time for the world's unpaced record of one mile. This record is probably prob-ably the most coveted in tho bicycle world and the securing of It adds greatly lo the laurels of the speedy little Aus tralian. Clarke reduced the record from 1:53 2-5 to The former record for a mile unpaced was made by W. 10. Samuelson at Salt Lake, on July 25, 1001, and since thai time professional bicycle riders all over the world have, attempted in vain lo lower It. Clarke's great achievement in clipping one and two-fifths seconds off tho record for thin distance will win for him even greater International recognition recog-nition than he has received In the past. Ho made a, wonderful rldo and finished with his characteristic final sprint. Lowers Another Eecord. After a brilliant pull by Hardy Downing, Down-ing, Ernie Pye and Floyd MucFarland, Jackie Clarke won tho two-mllo handicap handi-cap and broke another world's record Ills lime In this event Tuesday night was ;! :3S 1-fi. one and four-fifths seconds less than the previous mark of 3 10,. made on July 19, of this year by Clarke. When the race started Clarke and Lawson at scratch were so far bohlnd the leaders that It seemed a hopeless task to overhaul the front bunch. Hardy Downing started tho pulling for .io back markers nnd started the champion's train well on Us way. Then Pye took a turn at pulling and reduced the distance somewhat. some-what. There was still a gap of nearly half a hi) when Ihu:Farland started pulling. lie unwound a wonderful burst of speed and when he dropped out the gap wa closed and Clarko and MacFar-Innd MacFar-Innd were with tho loaders. With the boll Lawson went around tho bunch wlt Clarke Just behind. The little Australian easily circled tho bunch and finished by himself. Walker, who was hanging to Clurkc's wheel when the latter went around, beat Lawson for second place, Colvin Wins Medal. The five-mile western hainpionshlp for a gold medal brought out a bunch of twenty-four amateurs. For a wonder I hoy all rode well and not a single spill resulted. Rldintr like a seasoned veteran Ernest Colvin bided his time through the long race and Jumped out at the proper moment, winning handily. This gives Colvin one of tho hardest races in the championship series' and a nice load for the title. The pursuit, race between Brodbock and Pyo was not as exciting as it was thought it would prove. Pye's longer experience ex-perience at this style of racing and his splendid staying qualities were loo much for his young opponent. Pay Duer followed tho motor in splendid splen-did style Tuesday night and won as ho pleased ovor Wilcox in straight heats of their motor-paced race, in the first heat ho passed Wilcox two and one-half laps lo go and gained almost a lap on him. In the second heat he won by nearly three laps. William Stanley, the speedv distance runner, gave an exhibition at' the track hi an attempt lo lower the Utah records for a mile and two miles on the board track. He broke tho two-mile record, but failed to lower tho record for a mile.
