Show SHORT LINE CONDUCTOR HELD UP AND ROBBED Special lo The Tribune. OGDEN, Aug. 2. While on his way to the Union depot Sunday evening at 9 o'clock, E. J. Chandler, an Oregon Short Line conductor, was held up by a lono highwavman and robbed of ?i, a valuable valu-able ring and papers. The conductor had left his home to get a time tnblo from the depot, and. expecting to return at once, loft his watch In his room, or this would have been taken. As he reached the corner of Twenty-eighth street and Grant avenue, a stranger approached ap-proached and asked for a match. As the railroad man reached In his pocket for the match, he was covered with a revolver and ordered to olevatc his hands. After going through his victim's pockets, turning them Inside out, the highwayman ordered Chandler to remain re-main with his hands In the air while he made his escape. Although tho police were notified immediately after the' robbery, rob-bery, tho highwayman made his escape. Tho story oi the holdup was suppressed by tho police.. . , |
