Show FIGHT IS EXPECTED OVER MLEI POLES Matter Is Scheduled to Come Up in Council Monday Evening. A battle royal is expected in tho City Council when tho protest of "William "Wil-liam P. James against tho placing of the street railway's trolley poles four or five feet inside the curb lino on tho north sido of First South street, between be-tween Second East and Thirteenth East sircets, comes up for final passage. Two conflicting reports, one from the street committee and the other from the engineering and sewerage committee, each bearing the same number of names, were submitted to the council last Monday night, but it was found afterwards after-wards that the protest had not been referred re-ferred to the engineering committee, consequently this report, which recommended recom-mended that the protest bo denied, is of no effect. The street committee's report recommended that the protest be granted, and the matter will go beforo the council at tho next meeting on this report. To ascertain tho feeling and wishes of tho- property owners. Street Supervisor Super-visor Jake Italoigh sent a member of his department to almost every resident or property owner along that sido of the street. Approximately 200 names were signed to tho report, which aro about evenly divided as to whether tho poles shall "be placed .iust insido the curb or four or five feet inside the line. |
