Show PRESIDENT WILL NOT PROFIT BY AFRICAN -TRIP WASHINGTON, Dec. 7. President Itooscvclt "will got nothing from tho govcrnmout, but will give much of value lo tho government on his African Afri-can trip," says a statement given out by the Smithsonian institution today. The statement follows: "President Iiooscvclt decided last spring upon the proposed huuting trip to Africa, and during tho summer Secretary Sec-retary Walcott learned that the president presi-dent "was willing to havo ono or two naturalists accompany him from the Smithsonian institution, provided their expenses could be met; and also that the collection made by tho president and these naturalists wore to come to the Smithsonian institution and be deposited de-posited in tho United States National museum. "Mr. Roosevelt will pay all the expenses ex-penses of himself and his son Kermit in connection w;ith the proposed trip, including outfitting and transportation. "The expenses of tho three naturalists natur-alists sent out from the Smithsonian institution will bo paid by funds provided pro-vided for the purpose, no part of which is derived from any gqverumcnt appropriation ap-propriation or from the income of the Smithsonian fond. "Mr. Roosevelt will not receive one penny of tho fund for his own or his son's use or expenses; on tho contrary he makes a gift to tho govcrnmont of specimens, worth man' thousands of dollars, and possibly of a valuo that can hardly bo oxpressod". Ho will get nothing from the government: ho will givo much of value to the government; tho government's sharo will bo limited to receiving tho gift." |
