Show FASHION IS DECRIED By NOTED SPEAKER Dr. M. S. Levy Addresses a Congregation Con-gregation at Temple E'nai Israel. A largo audience, composed almost entirely of Hebrews, greeted Dr. M. S. Levy, 'president of the district grand lodge, L O. B. B., and T. J- Aschhcim, district grand secretary of tho samo order, or-der, of San Francisco. Friday evening, at Templo B'nai Israel. Both speakers were heartily received. Mr. Aschhoim was tho first: speaker of the evening and ho gave a brief history of tho or-dor. or-dor. which both he and Dr. Lovy represent, rep-resent, telling of its wonderful spread among tho Jewish pcoplo and of its advancement. ad-vancement. Dr. Lovy was thou introduced, and ho spoko at length npon tho topic "Society's "So-ciety's Shabby Goddess Fashion." In opening his remarks, Dr. Lovy stylod Salt Lako City as tho paradieo of tho desert and complimented his hearers npon tho splendid branch of tho lodge, of which he is tho head, which is locatod hero. Speaking of tho Jows, ho said that it will bo a great day of dclivoranco when tho vast majority of tho Jews aro in Amorica, tho land of tho free. Fashion, ho styled as a sham, something some-thing to bo avoided. It mado for ovil instead of for tho uplifting o society. so-ciety. Fashion is adored by young men, ho said. Tho five senses, sight, hearing, hear-ing, smell, tasto and touch all go to ward fashion, aud tho eyes, ho declared, always sco tho evil of fashion rather than that which should be taken into the soul through tho eyes. Fashion, ho said, is a shabby goddess which should not bo worshiped as it is today. 'When men po wrong, when certain places aro permitted to exist, when tho highor laws aro violated, tho excuso is always "iven that it was fashion which was responsible. Tho Jews, ho declared, aro slaves to fashion instead of tree men. From Alpha to Omega, fashion is invariably a- sham, ho said, and is something to bo avoided rather than countenanced. |
