To what extent have local enthusiasts en-thusiasts and business . firms taken to priwile flying, compared com-pared with those in other areas? These questions are answered answer-ed in a report just issued by the Civil Aeronautics Administration, Admin-istration, following a naation-wifle naation-wifle survey. It shows the num bor and type of registered planes in every county. Throughout the United States there were fi 1,85 ( J private planes in operation as of the beginning of this year. This does not include those belonging belong-ing to commercial airlines, i In Davis Countv, the CAA j .; count discloses, there were 25 privately-owned planes, '.'om-pared '.'om-pared with 11 in 1955. This was more, proportionately, proportion-ately, than was found in most counties in the United States. Related to the local population, popula-tion, it was equivalent to a plane for every 1,695 people, which compares favorably with the ratio in the nation as a whole, one plane per 2,720 people. It was better, also, than the State of Utah ratio, one for every 2,250 people. In terms of the county's land area, 2(i8 square miles, locallv registered planes were at the rale of 93 per 1,000 square miles, as against an average of 20 per 1,000 in the rest of the nation. The State of Utah had 4 per l.OOt. Who owns these private aircraft air-craft and for what are they used? Some of them are operated for pleasure and for travel by 'individuals who have the means to maintain them. While .more and more people are go-jing go-jing in for this expensive hobby it has not grown at quite the iwildfire rate onre envisioned.
