These are questions being put to every community by the President in launching n campaign to awaken the American Am-erican people to tho realities ,posed by Sputnik. The recent scientific achieve' ments in the Soviet Union have brought homo the alarming alarm-ing realization that our future: is closely linked to the de-j velopmont of more and belter . scientist?. The need has risen: for a hard look at our educa-l tional standards. It appears that they are far' below those of the Russians in the scientific field. Manpower of superior quality is being 'produced by them al an enor-Imous enor-Imous rate.
