He was one of the earliest attorneys to begin his law practice here, and to attain eminence therein, and yet his was not a. general practice; he declined to enter upon the criminal branch of the practice, that being exceedingly ex-ceedingly distasteful io him: As counselor, coun-selor, as a sound, able practitioner in large matters, as a safe custodian and agent in important charges, he was trusty and strong. For a number of years his health has' not admitted of very active effort, and yet he was prompt in attention to everything needing need-ing his care, and diligent in his business. busi-ness. Withal, he was a man of the very highest sense of honor and recti tude, and he had a heart of gold; his sympathies wero warm and keen and he was in distress whenever a friend was in difficulty until that friend was relieved. The world was much the better that Judge Marshall lived in it. His noble kind are nil too few. |
