Fifteen matches wero played today iu the third round of the all-comers tournament for the National Lawn TennlB championship ln singles. The only match that seemed at all doubtful was the J. O. Amcs-T. R. Poll affair, which ended In tho second set by Poll's withdrawal, owing to the heat. Tho hardeBt-fought mutch of tho day, In fact, of the tournament so far, was ,the contest between E. T. Gross of Providence Prov-idence and J. R. Carponter, Jr., of New York, which went through five sets and 'necessitated sixty games. Gross won tho match. t Bohr and Clothier won their matches in straight sots, as did Irving Wright, brother of the champion, while In the lower part of the draw Hackett and Siillman won their places through do-fault. do-fault.
