The difficulty began on the night of August 1-1, tho day before the reservation reserva-tion was opened, when about 300 "soon-ers" "soon-ers" gathered on tho border of the roB-ervation, roB-ervation, and on tho morning of tho 15th every town lot on tho new town-site town-site was occupied by a squatter. Indian Agent Wadsworth held tliat the vulo restricting re-stricting general settlements on reservation reserva-tion homesteads until, October 15 applied ap-plied to townsite settlements, and drove tho settlers off with Federal troops. Commissioner of tho General Land Office Eichards secured a contrary ruling rul-ing from the Secretary of the Interior, and it is expected that Wadsworth will receive it today and withdraw the troops, as his authority on the reservation reserva-tion is ended. Tho m'ilitia is expected to arrive before the withdrawal of the Fedoral troops, and will preserve order. Some bad feeling exists among squatters squat-ters who were driven off and who may have difficulty in regaining their claims, but no serious trouble is expected. |
