RIOTS IN ODESSA. Jews Are Slain; Exodus of Terror-stricken Terror-stricken Ones. ODESSA. July 24. Serious disturbances disturb-ances took place in the remote quarters quar-ters of Odessa late last night. The Jews sought refuge in the center of tho cit Manj- of them left Odessa altogether. The feeling of alarm among tho Jews today is unabated. A' feverish eroduB abroad by rail and ship doveloped, ow-inc ow-inc to fears of sinister developments. Otherwise tho city is outwardly quiet. Gov.-Gen. Kaulbars declares tho troops of .the garrison aro held well in hand, which, however, public opinion discredits. "Wholesalo political arrests continue at KiefT and Kharkoff. The other southern districts are reported quiet. There has been no actual disturbanco here today, but drunken Cossacks endeavored en-deavored to instigate an anti-Jewish maEsacre in the industrial suburb of Maldovanka, but were scattered by infantry, in-fantry, who instantly cordoned the .Tewisli quarter .and threatened to annihilate anni-hilate tho Cossacks. The latter were withdrawn to their baracks by order of their commandants. Under sudden terror 500 Jewish fam-ilios fam-ilios sought refuge in other parts of tho city. Two Jews wore killed and eight were wounded in Stepovai street here. Owing to the rapid fall in Russian Government securities tno local banks stopped paying out money to Jews who wanted to leave the cit'.
