Show HITTING THE BACKWARD TRAIL. Portland Journal. Ezra Meeker, an eminent pioneer of the Pacific Northwest, who for half a century or more has lived in tho vicinity vicin-ity of Puyallup, Wash.. Is making what to others besides himself wlil be an Interesting In-teresting trip. With team and wagon, perhaps an ox team and a pralrlo schooner, he Is taking tho back track over the old trail from his homo across tho mountains and plains and rivers and valleys to Missouri, tho starting point of the emigrant trains of fifty or sixty years ago. He will find a very different country most of the way from that which he traversed then, yet som.e of It will not have greatly altered. He will lecture and exhibit scenes on tho route, and so perhaps turn the trip to a little profit, but the novelty of It la no doubt tho main Inducement. Old men of means and vigor have different ways of enjoying their declining years. Some continue at work, being better contented thus, othors take tholr easo In a period of leisure, but this sturdy old pioneer believes he can best enjoy himself for a few months In hitting the trail back to old Missouri. |
