Show SOLDIERS MASQUERADE Enlisted Men at Fort Douglas Give Ball at Post Hall. The enlisted men at Fort Douglas gave their first masquerade ball at tho post hall Wednesday evening, which was largely attended by civilians from the city. The mnokers were attired In unique and odd costumes and made merry tho night until the weo sma' hours of the morning. The soldier boys did everything every-thing In their power to give their guests a good time, and succeeded as the latter were unanimous In their praise of the "boys'" ns good entertainers as well no campaigners. An orchestra of twelve nieces from the Twenty-ninth Infantry bnnd furnished music for tho occasion, and the many lively marches and entrancing en-trancing waltzes were heartily encored. The committee In charge of the successful success-ful event was composed of the following: Sergeant J. A. Larkln, company G; Sergeant Ser-geant D. Burnett, company L; Sergeant E. Shclton, company 10; Private Smith, company F; Private Thompson, Nineteenth Nine-teenth battery. The Infantry troops serving at this post went on n practice march yesterday, leaving tho fort lit the early morning and proceeding about seven miles In the Cottonwood Cot-tonwood canyon direction. Tho artillery arm, on account of slippery roads, were content with horse exercise. The remains oJf Clarence B. Lieut John Lund, Artillery con's, now at this post, has been ordered to report for examination for detail as First Lieutenant Lieu-tenant Ordnance corps, next March. Tho examination for this covered detail Is extremely ex-tremely hard. Capt. Robert II. Allen, Twenty-sixth Infantry, In-fantry, now In command of company IC, thlfl regiment, has beon transferred to company F, serving at this point, and Cnpt. Arthur. L. Conger, recently promoted pro-moted to a captaincy and assigned to the Twenty-ninth regiment of Infantry, will command company IC Capt. Allen will remain at Fort Duchesne until further orders. Chaplain Paul T. Brockmann, Twenty-ninth Twenty-ninth Infantry, gave a stercoptlcon entertainment en-tertainment last evening In the post chapel which drew a good attendance. |
