Salt Lake, already famous for its many bealillful churches, is to havo another a Greok church. S. W. Scars, .the architect, archi-tect, has completed tho plans. Yesterday the building contract was let to Ronan & Wheaton for tTOCO, and within sixty days the Greek community of Utah will havo a church of their own. Thoroughly Classic, s Tho now church will be thoroughly Greek In character. It will have tho Greek vaulted dome, surmounted by the cross as well as the hostorlc column, with Us beautiful frieze work. In fact everything every-thing about the church, both lnsldo and outside, will bo thoroughly classic. The Interior decorations of the church will bo elaborate. Paintings and sculpluro work will be secured" direct from Athens for this purpose. It Is estimated that between be-tween $4000 and ?5000 will bo expended In decorating tho church after it Is com. Dieted, Where Located. There ore several matters of extreme Interest about tho church. The property on which tho church will be erected is located on Fourth West and Fourth South and runs north and south. , Tho church will havo to bo built to conform with the location, but In accordance to an old tradition tra-dition sacred among all Greeks tho main cr.tranco will bo from the west Instead of tho north, so that the people will enter the church with their faces toward tho cast and so worship. Another interesting fcaluro Is that tho church will not be supplied with seats, as tho Greeks cither kneel or stand whllo worshipping. Ingenious Wny to Pay Debt. In order to build tho church tho officers of tho Greek community havo found It necessary to borrow $7000 nnd the method by which they Intend to pay off this debt Is Ingenious. Fifteen hundred shares of stock will bo sold among mcmbcra at a cost of 55 per share. ThlB will onablo the community to ralso tho money loaned within a few months and so pay off their debt. Then from time to time as tho church gets money on hand tho officials conduct lotteries and pay back tho people peo-ple who bought shares. By this method thov will clear their debt in a fow years and" as thev pay those who buy Bhares no Interest on their money tho principal will dcmlnlsh constantly. By this method the sum of money which would otherwise go to somo bank ns Interest is saved One of Five in Country. The now church will bo ono of tho five Greek churches In. America. It is estimated esti-mated thnt It will hold 2500 pooplo at ono flmc. The Greeks living not only In Salt Lake, but throughout this and adjoining States are Intensely Interested in tho work and it Is predicted that the dedication dedica-tion of tho church will bo attended bv thousands of Greeks coming from all parts of tho Rocky Mountain region.
