Show THE INCREASE IN VALUATION. The Increased valuation of railroads, cars, telegraphs, and telephones In Utah, tho present year above last year, amounts to 52,319,887. Of this the San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railway Rail-way company alone contributes $1,055,-234, $1,055,-234, or almost half of the total Increase. Tho aggregate showing Is a credit to the State, and a good mark for tho State Board of Equalization, which has this valuation In charge, and makes the returns. It would naturally be supposed that Salt Lake county would show the highest high-est vnluatlon under the several heads whose grouping supplies these totals. But It does not. It is away below the valuation to which Box Elder county attains. In the aggregate of this apportionment ap-portionment assessment. Box Elder county's portion is valued at 54,141, CIS, while Salt Lake county gets but $3,-307,045, $3,-307,045, a difference in favor of Box Elder of $744,573. This will seem strange to many who do not reflect that the Southern Pacific has Its cut-off over the lake In addition to its old route over the Promontory, both of which It keeps up, and both are chiefly In Box Elder county. Besides, that county has a considerable section of the Oregon Short Line, and all of the new line to Garland. After these two counties come Utah with a valuation of 52.766,920, or about half a million less than Salt Lake county; coun-ty; Weber with $1,886,793; Juab with $1,066,099; Summit with $1,044,026; and Carbon with $1,025,478. None of the other oth-er counties reaches tho million mark. The whole showing Is gratifying, as being an irrefragable proof of the advancement ad-vancement and progress of the State. And next year we expect to havo another an-other Important advance, In the ln-creaso ln-creaso In value of the roads already finished, and the addition of a long stretch of the Western Pacific. |
