Show BEEKEEPERS SHQUL3 RECONSIDER. The beekeepers of this State, In their meeting on Friday, decided to ignore future fairs. We are sorry to see that sort of action. It would have been better bet-ter to have followed President Lovesy's advice fjo far as ho recommended that more, attcntIon be paid to the State Fair. That was certainly sound counsel, coun-sel, and should have been followed.' As to other fairs, It Is true that the beekeepers have had a rough deal. At Omaha it was a losing game, in spite of fair promises. At Buffalo everybody lost, because of the tragedy of McKin-ley's McKin-ley's death. At the Irrigation Congress In 1903, Mr. Welch of Morgan met with a bad 103S, At St. Louis, the president of the association, after hard work and the expenditure of a considerable sum, was mo3t acurvlly treated, and was made to stand tho loss of a part of tho money ho had spent to collect the exhibit. ex-hibit. . . , ' In spite of" this,', however, we believe thnt the beekeepers would do well to reconsider re-consider their refusal to make an exhibit ex-hibit at Portland. We believe that a new era has dawned for the State in this matter, nnd that henceforward there will be belter methods introduced; that the money for exhibits will be faithfully applied toward makfng exhibits; ex-hibits; that the public money will not be expended without taking receipts; and thnt a straightforward accounting may be expected of all transactions in connection therewith. , We believe that this renovated method meth-od will bo especially true of the Portland Port-land exposition, do far as Utah's part in it is concerned.. We believe that the drastio Investigation made by the .House (to Its lasting honor) of the crookedness connected with the St. Louis exposition, has taught all concerned con-cerned a lesson, and that lesson will not be forgotten. We believe, further, that tho lesson was not needed, so far as the officials of the State In charge-at charge-at Portland are concerned. But it ought lo give confideneo to exhibitors. Wo therefore say emphatically that tho beekeepers aro standing in their own light when they refuse to mako an exhibit ex-hibit at Portland. They should reverso their attitude, send tho best exhibit of honey that Utah can produce, and rake, in all tho prizes offered. |
