Two men were killed and threo wero seriously injured in a cave-In at tho Highland Boy mlno, near Bingham, about 8 o'clock yesterday morning, Tho dead: MAT LOURIE, 27 years old; Swede, unmarried. LOUIS KOTTO, .12; Italian, unmarried. Soon after tho accident occurred tho mlno wns cut off from communication with the rest of tho world, so "that very meager details could bo obtained. It is understood, however, that tho men wero working In a drift on tho fifth level when a large section of tho roof of tho mlno fell and burled them. Several men hnd narrow escapes. Tho throe who were injured were caught near tho outer edge of tho cave-In and wero rescued by hard work on the part of their fellow workmen in tho mine. The two mcin killed wero burled under hundreds of tons of earth and rooks. It was learned that after eight hours' work tho bodies were recovered. There wa.i at no tlmo hope that the men could bo taken out alive. The company physician was called and tho Injured men wero treated at tho mlno Instead of being taken to their homes, so that the extent of their Injuries Is not known. Residents of Bingham knew almost al-most nothing In regard to tho accident last night. t. II. Channlng. general manager of tho Utah Consolidated Mining companv, which owns the Highland Boy, went up to tho mine yesterday upon hearing of tho accident. No particulars of tho affair af-fair had been received at his homo In this city last night. A miner was killed In tho Highland Boy about six weeks ago by a similar accident. acci-dent. The company Is very reticent. It appears, about giving out Information In n-gard to fatalities. |
