MJss Mary Groveling, a school teacher at Dunntleld, went up on thc Kltlattny mountain after school yesterday to pick wild flowers with some of the children. "While pushing along through the bushes she felt something coll tightly around her ankle. She knew that It was a snake. Drawing up her skirts until she could see the swaying head of the reptile, she made- a grab for its neck and caught it in a firm grasp just below the head. Then Ml.is Creveling called to one of the boys and asked for his knife. With it'she cut the snake In two below her hand, and flung the squirming thing from her. Then, kicking the snake's coils from her ankle, she fainted. Tho reptile was a black snake four feet seven Inches long. Although black snakes are more common In New Jersey now than for half a century, this Is the first one seen in the Klttatinj- mountains moun-tains this year. |
