A steady rain, which started about noon, mado the track muddy for the Ascot Derby, the featuro of -today's racing events, and the fourth race on the card. Four starters faced the barrier, H. T. Grlflln's Bill Curtis being tho public choice at 3 to 6. Formaster had a good following at 2 and 3, while Elwood and Sals wero the outsiders at 5 and 7. To a good start Sals went to tho front, closely followed by Elwood and Formaster, For-master, with Bill Curtis lasL They were in this position until entering tho stretch on the last round, when Curtis" forged ahead and won easily by three lengths.
