A desperate des-perate man-hunt was begun In northern Montana this morning, when two posses of determined men left Poplar and Glasgow, Glas-gow, In "Valley county, respectively, to run down tho mombeis of tho notorious Jones gang. The. chief of the band, Frank Jones, was killed near Poplar lost week by Deputy Dep-uty Sheriffs George Bird and John Mor-can. Mor-can. It is stated that six members of tho Jones gang wcro seen two days ago near tho ranch of A. N. Tandc, whero Jones was killed. Theso men wcro without horses, and the officers hope to overtake them before they accuro mounts and make off to tholr stronghold In the Bunch Willow region, near the international line. Tho posso from Glasgow, tho county scat, Is headed by Sheriff Frank Co3ncr, and that from Poplar Is in charge of Deputy Dep-uty Morgan. The posses aro composed of plckod men. Tho Poplar party was equipped by tho Indian agent of the Fort Peck agency. Tho Jones gang lias terrorized Valley county for ten years, becoming bolder each 3'ear. Horse-stealing-, raids on stock ranches, burning ranch buildings and highway robbery wore their chief offenses, of-fenses, although murder and kldnaplnc arc also laid at their door.
