Show FORM COllEGE LEAGUE Five Schools Represented at j Interscholastic Meeting OTHERS WILL BE INVITED few Organization Will Be Called Utah Interscholastio League and Its Object Will Bo to Advanco Interests In-terests of Intelscholastic Sport Constitution and ByLaws Adopted Giving Supervision to Executive Committee FourYear Rule of Eligibility Adopted representatives of five of the leading lead-ing colleges of Utah met at the Jj D S University yesterday and organized i a league whose purpose Is to advance V the in interests of Interscholastic sport The league Is to be called the Utah Interscholastic In-terscholastic league and any school doing work of high school college or university grade will be entitled to membership V A constitution and byJaws were drawn up and will be mailed to all the schools In the State which arc considered c consid-ered eligible to membership In this way it la hoped a uniform standard of athletic eligibility will be established and the different schools will be brought Into closer relations in matters of sport Those who attended the meeting V were d C Riser and Harvey Holmes ofthe > University Utah Prof R L Bird Freeman Bassett and H C Hicks of the Li D S university Prof E D Partrldg and Royal Bassett of the B Y academy of Provo Pi of C Snow and Prof G L Swendsen of the Agricultural I Agri-cultural college at Logan and A J TUdges and II Bullen of the B Y college col-lege of Logan Royal Bnssett was V elected temporary chairman and Free man Bassett secretary At the morning session a committee consisting of Harvey Holmes Freeman Bassett A J Ridges 13 D Partridge and G L Swendsen was appointed to draft bylaws and a constitution tog to-g ern the league The committee reported re-ported nt the afternoon session which was productive of some lively but goodnatured debater The chief control con-trol of the leagues affairs Is to he vested in an executive committee consisting con-sisting of one member from each school having membership In the league The committee Is to have final action In all r controversies One of the most important rules adopted was that of fouryear eligibility eligibili-ty corresponding with the rule In vogue at all the Eastern universities V An interesting question was raised as V to what schools should be permitted to join the league Holmes said the University would refuse V fuse to play championship gam d with any of the normal schools under the direct Jurisdiction of the University as V such were practically the same as the University and he did not believe that V a school could compete against Itself The matter was left to the executive V committee for future decision Each school Is to make rules governing govern-ing Its athletics but such rules are not to conflict with the rules of the league which are as follows 1Any person participating In an In teicholnstlc athletic contest must bu > a bona I fide student oft1uSs hool he represents and lie must be In regular attendance doing satisfactory work in at least two subjects aggregating hours credit pNo person shall be admitted to any Intercollegiate contest who receives any sift remuneration or pay for his service on tne college team Z No salaried tcnchQr or instructor shall be classed as a student even though he may bo doing some workas V a jitudent V tH any contestant Is I protested the executive committee of the league shall determine as to his eligibility and its decision shall be ilnal 5VTcn days before every Interscholastic Interscho-lastic contest tho heads of > the Institutions V Insti-tutions concerned shall submit to each V other a certified list of contestants eligible eli-gible under the rules adopted to participate V par-ticipate In said contest All contestantS contest-ants shall be excluded from the contest except those so certified GA contest with any team outside of this > leaguc shall not ho considered In dcrtrmlning the league championship champion-ship 1T 7 From time to time the executive V committee shall publish a statement of V the standing of the respective teams In this league SNo student shall compete In any event as a representative of any college col-lege or university for moro than four years 0 These rules shall govern all con tests in athletics between members of this league |
