Show I NEW ARMY RIFLE Figures From Chief of Ordnanca Re xgarding Springfield Gun Washington Jan 1Gen Crozler chief of ordnance has prepared a paper pa-per In regard to the new Springfield magazine rifle practically adopted for the army in which he gives some interesting In-teresting statistics to show the superiority supe-riority of that arm compared with the KragJorgensen rifle now In use In our army the Mauser and the German military rifle These V figures show among other things that the new United States service ser-vice rifle has an initial velocity of 2300 feet per second against 2000 feet for the KragJorgensen 22JDO for the Mau ser and 2145 for the German rifle Although stronger and superior in other respects the new service rifle including bayonet and scabbard is lighter than either of the other arms The new rifle has a caliber of 30 Inches the same as the KragJorgensen and all four of the rifles named have a capacity ca-pacity of five rounds In their magazines maga-zines |
