Show HENRY WA6ENER DEAD Old Settler and Prominent Business Man at Rest LONG FIGHT AGAINST DISEASE Was a Successful Brewar for Many Years V I Has Many Friends Throughout the Country and Was looted for Charity Char-ity and Public Spirit Ilcpry Wagoner one of Utahs earl Jsct I settlers and most highly respected citizens u man for years prominently cqnnected with her business Interests and her material progress died at 740 last evening1 at his home In this city P11 SQuth Third East street of a complication com-plication of diseases after an illppys extending over a period of more than six years SUFFERED IN PATIENCE Mr Yagcnor became III of dropsy In January J807 An attack of rheumatism rheuma-tism followed and later Brlghis disease dis-ease developed so that he has suffered severely though always patiently during dur-ing all these years of sickness Alwiys prior to this engaged In active bunl ness life since arriving at the years of manhood his long term of invalIdism Invalid-Ism I was peculiarly trying hut his hopeful hope-ful spirit and kindly disposition nerved to buoy him up to the very end Last Sunday week Mr Wagoner seemed much halter than ho hind been for along a-long time and hlq frlpnda had hoped that there were yet left for him many days comparatively free from Muttering But only the follovnE day a turn for the worse waR token and he failed rapidly rap-Idly until death came to his final relief NATIVIJ OF GERMANY Henry Wapeper was born August 30 1S3S In Ehn horn Holstein Germany When 20 years of ago he emigrated to America settling first at Colonq Gal whore In engaged In the brewery business busi-ness He came to Utah in 18G4 and soon after his arrival horo established a brewer at the mouth of Emigration canon which he conducted succcpsfully for more than thirty years or until 1590 when he retired from active business busi-ness life MAN OF FAMILY Mr TVnjjencr was married on June 27 1863 at Carson City Nev to Mar garethe Englebrecht and to their unIon un-Ion nine children were born The wife and seven children survive him Two of the children Henry and Pauline i died In 1S7S aGed 10 and 5 years respectively re-spectively An Interesting fact In this connection Is i that the last words spoken spo-ken by Mr Wagoner before hs died were In relation to the little ones who had gone before twentylive years ago The children now living are Mrs Kate Wagoner King Misses Margaret Bertha Ber-tha Lena Ida and Ihrlna nnd Chris Wagoner The member of the family are well known In Salt Lake and the sympathy of tho entire community goes out to them In tholr great bereavement bereave-ment t ACTIVE LODGE MAN The deceased was prominent as a Mason In Utah having been a Knight Templar and a Shrlnor He was made a Mason by Mount Morlah Lodge No 2 In the spring of 1S6S and served as treasurer of this lodge from 1S70 to 1S7S He wag also an honored member of the A O U W lodge The funeral wIll be under the auspices of the Knights Templar although complete arrangements have not yet been made HAD PUBLIC SPIRIT To the pioneers of Utah the death of Henry Wngener Is a peculiarly pad blow He was tn tljern n brother and a friend His home was to them a place of refuge If one was needed and his means were always ut the disposal of any worthy cause Of this phase of his character Christopher Diehl one of the oldest of the pioneers last night said FRIENDS GOOD WORDS Henry Wagoner In the early days was one of the most I charitable and progressive business men I ever knew Ho was an enterprising citizen In every respect Ills money was equally free for charity or for any enterprise or Improvement Im-provement calculated tp benefit the city There was never a better man or one with a warmer heart He was a truo citizen In every senae liberal oven to a fault I never knew a man who had so many friends nor one who gave them so much and asked so little In return I |
