Show lOW RATES GIVEN STRIKERS ON RIO GRANDE ROAD I One Cent PerMile From I Carbon County Points NOTICE IN ALL LANGUAGES Believed That Large Proportion Will Move Lowest Passenger Bate Ever Offered West of the Missouri River According Ac-cording to Railway Officials r TRIBUNE SPECIAL Helper Utah Dec 291n order to assist the Utah Fuel company In freeing free-ing this county of strikers the Rio Grande Western railway today made I an open rate of 1 cent per mile to points In this State and to Denver Colorado Springs and Pueblo The reduced rate went Into effect tonight It is the lowest low-est passenger rate ever offered west I of the Missouri river according to railway officials Until today the Rio Grande has maintained a passenger rate ot4 cents per mile The decrease of 76 per cent was made expressly for the benefit of the strikers IN DIFFERENT LANGUAGES The notice was printed In a dozen different languages in order that its contents might reach every nationality represented by the striking element The notices will be posted at Sunnyside Castle Gate Scofleld Winter Quarters Clear Creek and other points In the county tomorrow MANY WILL CLEAVE Large crowds of striker were attracted at-tracted by the notices tonight and officials of-ficials of both the coal company and the railway company believe that a large per cent ofthemwill take advantage ad-vantage of the offer of cheap transportation i transpor-tation Tho rate Is I good only in leaving leav-ing the county and will not be acr cepted for return passage It Is aniil that the strikers are des rqus of leaving leav-ing buC are short of funds FORCED TO JIOVE Sixteen families were forced to move today from company property A number of the strikers whose leases I expired moved before that time There was no disturbance < of any kind nor any demonstration The strikers accepted ac-cepted the situation as n matter of course and willingly moved One hundred hun-dred and fifty tents were sent to the camps yesterday by union officials WANT DEPUTY REMOVED Gen Cannon today received a communication com-munication from Maj Heywood who is In command of the detachment of troops at Scofield protesting against the actions of company guards Sunday In precipitating a riot with the strikers strik-ers Maj Heywood attributed the outbreak out-break to the actions of Noah Potter chief deputy at Winter Quarters Potter Pot-ter Is the complainant In the criminal libel suit which is pending against Attorney At-torney A B Edler Maj Hc wood Insisted In-sisted that Potter be removed from duty on the grounds 1 as his actions are likely to cause a riot at any time Unless Un-less he Is removed at once according to Gen Cannon he will be arrested by the troops disarmed and turned over to the civil authorities |
