Show DONA TON TO COllEGE Col Ferry Gives Site for SheldonJackson School GROUND VALUED AT 20000 Old Sito of College Abandoned nnd Ono Nearer to City Secured Now Location to Bo Known as College Bi11Idcal Grounds for Purpose Intended Nnme of College to Be Changed to Westminster Board of TrusteeS Axe Elated Over tho Outlook Through tho generosity of Col William Wil-liam M Forry of Park City one of Utahs prominent citizens and educations educa-tions staunch and practical friends SheldonJackson college will this week receive a line new site for the colleges which arc to be erected within the next few years The site includes twentyone acres and is located In Pcrklns3 Grand View addition Just east of Eleventh East cornering on Eleventh South and Thirteenth East and extending south to Emigration canyon creek The purchase price ot the property Is said to be about 20000 and It Is considered one of the most desirable for the purpose for which its it-s Intended that could have been obtained ob-tained From Thirteenth East the ground slopes gently to the west and the view In aJl directions Is superb The TVasatch range seems scarcely I more than a stones throw while the beautiful Salt Lake valley stretches away for mlles to the south and west the University of Utah is almost on a direct lino north of where the college buildings will be placed when erected ADVANTAGEOUS SITE It will bc remembered that the trustees I trus-tees ot SheldonJackson college some Ume since decided upon a location about a mile and a half south of the ground to be presented by Col Ferry it was a fiftyacre tract on what is known as the Crlsmonfarm but when the street car companies consolidated and it was learned that there was no Immediate prospect of an extension of the lines to within a reasonable distance dis-tance of the grounds the trustees thought it would be wise to seek a location nearer toiVn Accordingly when they learned In November that the donors of the former site were ready to release them from all obligations obliga-tions to establish the college there they were delighted and proceeded at once to secure the attractive and Ideal site which will now be theirs In addition ad-dition to being much closer to the city than the former location the new site has the advantage of street car communication com-munication city light and water In fact there is nothing lacking to make it complete and beautiful for college purposes V COLLEGES NEW NAMES NAME-S The trustees are daily expecting from Washington the legal papers permit tingthem to change the name of the college The new name has not yet been decided upon but the name most C In favor among the trustees at present pres-ent Is Westminster College Two new college buildings are in prospect but it may be that the construction will not begin for a year The grounds are now being fenced In His probable that the trustees at their monthly meeting on Tuesday afternoon af-ternoon will adopt for the ncwl location tho name of College Hill V ENCOURAGING OUTLOOK Said one of the members of the board of trustees yesterday With their ef llclent college president Rev George Bailey now In charge of the valuable college property iu Washington and working for the general Interests of the college with this attractive new site so much nearer the city with the prospect pros-pect of two fine buildings In the near future the trustees and all the friends of the college are quite elated over the encouraging outlook PATRON OF EDUCATION Col Ferry has been a member of the board of trustees of SheldonJackson college ever since it was organized and a close friend said last night that he has always said that should fortune smile upon him he Intended doing something for the college His generous gener-ous gift in this direction was entirely unsolicited and will come as a complete com-plete surprise to his many friends outside out-side of the board of trustees of the college Col Ferry has always taken an active interest in educational matters mat-ters and before coming to Utah was for many years Identified with the University of Michigan as one of its regents Rev R G McNlece dean of Sheldon Jackson college has acted as the representative rep-resentative of COt Ferry in the purchase pur-chase of the property and for months has been active In consummating the various deals Involved the property belonging to at least a dozen different parties about half of whom resided 5 in different parts of the country |
