Show NOT SELFINFLICTED Opinion of Dr Mayo After Examining Examin-ing the Body Dr Mayo who examined the body after its removal to Taylors undertaking undertak-ing rooms Is Inclined to believe that tho wound in tho throat was not self inflicted Tho wound Is a straight Incision across the neck severing the trachea and penetrating almost to the aosopha gus said Dr Mayo Now when n man cuts his own throat ho usually makes an Irregular Incision which extends ex-tends upward to the left If the man Is rIght handed or to the right If he Is left handed The cut in Colllnss throat was evidently made by n quick short stroke from u very sharp Instrument and extends across the throat in n straight t horizontal line The injury was not necessarily fatal as no important im-portant arteries were severed and with proper wrgical treatment the mans life might have been saved Without such aid however he must have bled to death and there are Indications that Collins choked to death from the blood which poured from the wound The hands were covered with blood < and mud but this gives no clue as tho same would have been true whether the wound was selfinflicted or made by another person I would have been impossible for the man to have cut his throat outside the caVo where he was found and then to havo crawled Into the hole and piled the stones Up as they were found From the position in which the body was found and the profusion of blood Inside tho cave It Is very probable the Injury was inflicted In-flicted there whether by Collins or some other person Aside from the cut In the throat there arc no other serious Injuries on the body The right eye Is bruised the skin broken and the eyeball torn open but this might have been done against the rocks In the convulsive moments I preceding death I |
