Show I Censure for Rawlins For the first lime during his term In office the Record has occasion to find fault with the course of Senator Haw lbs Vhen the Senate vote was taken last Tuesday on the scaling of Quay from Pennsylvania who hall been appointed ap-pointed by the Governor of his Stale the Senate was so nearly divided on the question that the whole matter was necldcd by the vote of Mr Raw line 13y ca Ling his vole on the negative nega-tive side he prevented three Stales from securing the representation In the upper up-per house of Congress to which they arc entitled among them being his own Mr Rawllns did not vote against the seating of Quay In the Interests of right and fairness hut was actuated solely by political motives and it Is for this that we ccn uie him When Mr Rawllns wn elected Senator It was expected > ex-pected the he would become the reprc seniallve of the whole people and that he would labor for their entire Interests inter-ests and even though the appointee of Go Wells might have differed from Mr Rawlins politically it was his duty to vote to give his Stale the representation represen-tation provldcii by the I Constitution To do otherwise throws him open to the suspicion of selfishness In our opinion opin-ion Mi Rawllns made a grave mistake Iron County Record |
