Show ANTIEGGTHROWING MEASURE I Ordinance Introduced at Last Nights Meeting of the City Council to Protect Menaced Members I J An anUcGrslhrowinp ordinance was introduced to the City Council at Ha meeting lust night That measure of I legislation 1 was considered necessary I from the fact that recently Tame K Shaw at a meeting of the committee on the Salt Lake Valley railroad franchise fran-chise expressed a strong desire to throw eggs fresh or otherwise at two member of the Council who favored the granting of the franchise The ordinance or-dinance was read by Deputy Recorder Nyfllrom I created a sensation and half a dozen Councllmen at once Inquired In-quired who was the author of it I bore the names of Councilmen Whlttemore and Fernstrom The for mel was not present and the latter disclaimed dis-claimed u 1 knowledge of ft but there was a suspicion in view of the fact that It was for their benefit thut it was Intended that they were In some way responsible fOIl t The ordinance was set aside for the time being but may come up later on If I the course of events I should necessitate 11 The document reads as follows Whereas A wHlknown and reputable citizen of Suit Lake has threatened Lat La-t against the persons of two members of this Council eggs ancient and by no means honorable untl Whereim Ho Is I mighty apt to do It if he gets a rliunco nnd may Induce others to join In tho fusdllude and Whereas HMs not thought wise to havn overrlpo eggs thrown against members of this I august body nnd Whereas The practice of throwing eggs should not 0 encouraged by thIs Council therefore be It Resolved ny tim City Council of Salt Lake City thai we got together ant try to UN up an ordinance which will make It I misdemeanor and a grievous mIstake for any person or persons the more tho worse to throw fresh decayed or mortifying morti-fying eggs ngulnit any member or members mem-bers of this Council or their friends at any UntO or place no mutter how much the I ponton or perwons dolnp the ihtoultiK may feel the honor Is worl lilly bestowed I and bo It further Resolved That thn Chief of Police or ono of Ids understudies bo Instructed to put on his old clothes nnd taking a cnn phor bottle for PossIble emergencies to accompany certain members of thin Council Coun-cil to ali from their homes at night to proton el ant keep inviolate tho members of thU Ooimi |
