LYNCHING FOLLOWS MURDER Two Negroes Hanged by Mot > for Slaying Peace Officers Rlploy Tenn Jan 9The staying of wo peace officers here this morning vaa followed tonight It la reported by the lynching of two negroes 1 larvln Durham aud W D Turner oUlcers of the peace were this morning shot to death by two negroes while In I the discharge of their duty Turner and Durham hud arrested a negro named Gingery and crc taking him to the Rlpley jail vJiei they weru overtaken hy two brother of the prisoners who without warning llred from the rear shooting both officers in the buck of the head killing them Instantly When the news of the tragedy reached here It created great excitement and many buslnss people closed up their whops In order to Join In the chase of the murderers Hounds were brought forth and used in the case At midnight mid-night It Is reported that two negroes have been captured and lynched They were swung to trees on the roadside at 930 tonight One of the dead men In the prisoner who was being escorted to the Jail when the officers were ahot by his brothers The searching parties arc still out hunting for other participants in the crime It is reported that many negroes ne-groes in the neighborhood are arming themselves Negroes are being run off the streets loTlIght and are warned to remain quiet I A negro was assaulted at S oclock by a white roan and perhaps fatally InC in-C Jured Every Incoming train has I brought large numbers of men who have joined In pursuit of other negroes
