Oraon I is now said that unless the Provo postmaster can stand a search Ins investigation in-vestigation by a Congressional committee t commit-tee his successor may be named very n TH LOGAN END OF IT How the Appointment is Received Charge Against Miller TRIBUNE SPECIAL Logan Utah Jan 9The appointment appoint-ment of Robert Murdock a postmaster came as a great surprise to the people here even Including polltlcltns and they have hardly recovered sufficiently from It to express an opinion on It I Generally the appointment In looked Upon aH a reward for fidelity to Mr McKinley rather than recognition oC party a Murdock was the only manor man-or all the candidates that was n voter for McKinley In 1SOG and he was not the choice of the organization But while the defeated applicants lire somewhat some-what sore they all rejoice that Rev N E Clemonson did not secure the plum I was Clemcnson against the field from the start Joseph Odcll who was Indorsed by tho Republican organization for the place tsald I have no complaint to make us outside of myself Murdock was my choice but his appointment Is not lu any sense n recognition of our local organization or-ganization Joseph Squires acting postmaster who WHO also n candidate took the same view I am glad to hear that Clemenson didnt land I any way he I said I I Ttev N E Clemenson when seen said Well 1 the news does not disturb me in the least Tills fight has never caused me any worry naturally I did not like to have men tell me as some I of the candidates did that because I was not a member of the Mormon church I was not eligible to the position but I ceased long ago to worry over such matters and this news does not alarm me at all From a party standpoint stand-point I hardly think the appointment the best that could have been made Another prominent Republican who denied tho use of his name told an Interesting In-teresting story of how Murdock got the appointment I should Imagine said he that money considerations had something to do with It Murdock offered of-fered to contribute WOO to a campaign fund If he got the Job but this was not 1 high enough for Glen Miller who demanded de-manded liquidation of personal oblrga tlon before he would guarantee Mur C dookitho Job I Tw latter stated In my presence the speaker continued that he could Kt the appointment It he wanted It Just enough lubrication thats all was hits remark Explaining further he said that he had offered 10 for campaign purposes and that If he Increased It a little and made it personal he could get the office I would like to know what It cost him now said my Informant Murdock Is a native of Scotland Is 47 years old and has lived In Logan 1 Inco boyhood He has boon a lifelong Republican and was 0 hard worker for the party In this country Hohnd I r strong backing being Indorsed by Judges Bartch Miner and Zane and the McKinley Col electors of this State Dorsey ot Nebraska and Glen Miller He Is n zealous Mormon and hns many deserv-ing loyal and hardworking Republicans cans The light for the placo was one of the warmest postofllco lights In the State and whoever got it some one who was worthy was bound to be disappointed disap-pointed Before coming to any conclusion conclu-sion as far as my own recommendation was concerned I talked with all of the candidates and as many of their supporters sup-porters an i conveniently could I seemed to candi tcmed me that some of the I dates who had the strongest indorse ment had also the bitterest opposition Murdock appeared to be the second choice of nearly all the other candidates candi-dates The misfortune of his having I haYing lost both lower limbs drew to him the sympathy of every one In addition to this he had been a stalwart supporter I or McKinley In IS9C hud been one of I the most liberal contributors Ib to the Republican Re-publican campaigns In Cache county and had received the indorsement of fellowRepublicans by nomination as Treasurer at the last city election Not only has he been n liberal contributor to the part in the past but has freely stated to me as I know he has to dozens doz-ens of others that he should be in the future j Now a to the dirty Insinuation of tho prominent Republican who denied I the use of his name that I had been paid for my recommendation of Mr Murdock let me say that I never asked nor received n cent from Mr Murdock I or any one else for my recommendation of him for the Logan postofTlce As for demanding the liquidation of personal obligations before I would guarantee Murdock the job let me answer that by saying that I have had no personal obligations during the eleven years I have been a resident of Utah and trust I never will Consequently I have never asked Mr Murdock or any one else to liquidate any obligation of mine As to guaranteeing the JobVl that also is a power I have never asserted nor assumed Out of the ten candidates candi-dates Mr Murdock was only one of the good and deserving men There were not ten places to go around consequently conse-quently some one had to be disappoint dd as is always so in such cases COMMITTEES WERE IGNORED State County and City Organizations Indorsed Odell Anent the appointment of Robert Murdock as postmaster at Logan to succeed Orsnn Smith some interesting facts arc being commented upon Sometime i Some-time ago Wesley K Walton chairman of tho State Republican committee received re-ceived a communication from Fourth Assistant PostmasterGeneral Brlslow requesting him to submit the name of a suitable man for the appointment Chairman Walton named Joseph Odell Odel of Logan and his recommendation was supported by the Republican committee I of Cache county and the city Republican Republi-can committee of Logan The recommendations recom-mendations however were Ignored and Mm dock was appointed NO WITNESSES NEEDED Postofflco Committee will Depend Upon Documentary Evidence Washington Jan 9The investigation investiga-tion a to the
