L HIS LIFE TO SAVE OTHERS i Heroic Acton of Brakeman Craig of I I I Illinois Central Chicago Jan 9 A special to the Tribune from Belleville Il says k Samuel Craig of Carbondale was a brakeman on an Illinois Central freight t train I let East SL Louis early today to-day The conductor had Instructions to meet the Dixie Flyer at yildui nan station near here I was found the I train was too bag to take the siding r and Craig was sent down the track to Hag the flyer which was almost due It wan in the gray of dawn and there I waR a heavy fog AH the train apr ap-r I proached Crafp stood In the center of the track and waved ills lantern The light did not carry more than 0 few feet through the fog The engineer did not ece the signal I Craig rushed down the track still waving his lantern lie f Jraa Struck by the engine and ground r tb death tinder the wheels The train Ut stopped and a collision averted
