PANIC ON A SCOW Excursion That Came Near ResultIng Result-ing in Direful Calamity Tacoma Wash July 12A panic on a scow of 250 excursionists of the Mason Methodist mission and the Tracy Presbyterian Pres-byterian mission of Tacoma nearly resulted re-sulted In a direful calamity last night In the waters of Puget sound off Point De fiance The party had gone out In tow of the steamer Norwood to picnic grounds near Olalla but a light tug was Bent to bring the party home In the oven Ing Rough water prevented towing tho barge alongside and the effort was made to tow It with a line The water dashed over the sldo of the scow creating a panic among the women and children which was Increased when the scow was cut adlft Later tim tug came alongside and many of the cold and frightened people clambered aboard reaching Tacoma Taco-ma shortly before midnight
