t AWFUL HEAT IN MISSOURI Kansas City Puts Through Hottest Night Ever Known There Kansas City Mo July 12This was r the hottest day ever experienced iin southwestern Missouri In Kansas fifty for four hours this afternoon the Government Gov-ernment tlierrnjomoitei registered gr while the mercury J Von the street iirCne downtown districts soared to 10S and 110Last Last night was one of the worst hot nights of which Kansas CItyans have any recollection Hardly a breath of air has stirred here for the past twen tyfour hours and great sulferlng has resulted especially arnongt the poor in the river bottoms Five prostrations were reported in Kansas City none so far fatal At Joplin 105 degrees was reported Paving contractors found It difficult to keep their men at work and men and horses at many of the zinc mines were compelled to quit at 2 oclock for the day But one rain has visited JOplin and the surrounding country since May 1st and several mining plants are on the verge of shutting down because of the scarcity of water At Springfield 104 was recorded 1 the highest in the history of the signal service ser-vice there and four prostrations were reported
