Show MINISTERS CONDEMN BURNING Resolution on the Porter Case Adopted by the Salt bake Ministerial Association V V The Ministerial association oC this city yesterday placed Its stamp of disapproval dis-approval on the burning of the negro Preston Porter by the enraged citizens of Lincoln county Colo But little discussion dis-cussion followed the introduction of the resolution by the Rev George Bailey Bail-ey of Westminster church but the discussion dis-cussion was along the line of thought expressed by the resolution that a strict administration of tile laws upon the sUUutc books would do away w 1th lynching bees and the punishment would be a more effective example than that meted out by halfdazed cftlvens of a district wheie some horrible crime has been committed ami vengeance only Is sought The resolution which was unanicous ly passed reads as follows Tho Ministerial association of Salt Lake City does hereby express its lrofouni regret at the exhlblllon of cruelty and lawlessness perpetrated by the citizens oC Lincoln county at Limon Cob last Frl 1 day on the person of Preston Porter who was guilty of an unnamable crime and the murder of Louise Frost Wo would not for a moment condono the commission of crime by any persons whatsoever nevertheless we believe that public safety and morallt > would be best conserved by an unflinching admlnlstia llon of statute Jaw rtther lhan the visitation visita-tion of Ijnch law upon a culprit however dastardly his deed The Introduction of the resolution followed fol-lowed the presentation and discussion of an able paper on Christian Sociology Sociol-ogy by the Rev George Bailey |
