Show TALKS WITH FRUITGROWERS SERIES OF INTERESTING MEETINGS MEET-INGS IN THE DIXIE COUNTRY Messrs Judd and Wright of tho State Board of Agriculture and Prof Close oC Agricultural College jI j I TRIBUNE SPECIAL St George Utah Npv 19The members I mem-bers of the State Board of Horticulture accompanied by Prof e H Close of the Agricultural college of Utah have 1 been In Washington county since Friday Fri-day of last week The object of the visit is twofold The Stale Board of Horticulture has charge of the horticultural experiment experi-ment farm established by the last Legislature and the present visit Is partly for tho purpose ot Inspecting the work done during the year and checking check-ing up the expenditures on the farm The appioprlatlon of 0000 has been handled by lion Thomas Judd president presi-dent of the board and the universal opinion of the citizens as well as the other members of the board Is that every dollar has been spent to the very I best advantage i The other object the board has In the present visit is to hold horticultural meetings in the variOus fruit centers throughout the southern portion of the I State In this the board Is ably assisted I by C H Close professor of horticulture I I horticul-ture at the Agricultural college The first meeting waf held at Santa I Clara on Saturday at 4 p m President I Judd Prof Close and Secretary Wright addressed the meeting and aroused great Interest having to remain for a I I long time after adjournment to answer questions put by the wideawake fruit I giowers of Santa Clara who produce I much of the finest fruit grown In Dixie At S1 George Sunday evening the I Bishop James Andrus tendered tho use I of the Tabernacle to the vIsitors and 1 a grand meeting was held Prof Close I outlined the courses of study and told I advantages offered for a practical education edu-cation at the Agricultural college Great Interest was manifested and It Is very likely the young pcoplo of St George will take advantage of the opportunity op-portunity given by the State to com bine science with practice Secretary Wright talked for one hour on the natural l resources of Dixie the demand throughout the world for the superior fruits that may be grown I hqro and bright prospects for young I pqoplc who ishould educate thcmsolves u WlUKC uieir place in tie front ranks of horticulturists The meeting was a grand success and tho speakers were warmly congratulated by the leading l citizens fit the close The purty goes from here to Toquer vllle Laverkln Cedar and Beaver week where meetings will be held during the |
