Show TEAM CRASHES INTO CESSPOOL I I f Unhappy Plight of Couple of Big Dray Horses for Half ah Hour I j I V Yesterday Afternoon VV VV V I I i An accident which badly Injured one of the large dray horses belonging to the Pleasant Valley Coal comaiiy happened hap-pened yesterday afternoon One of the 4 drivers for the company was delivering II deliver-ing coal at a residence on the corner of Second West and Second North streets I I In order to reach the coal shers it was I necessary for him to drive Into the I yard of W M Elliott Just each of the corner house In doing this the horses stepped squarely on top of a large cesspool Into which the waste pipes from four houses run The great weight of the horses crashed in the plank and earth covering I cover-ing and the horses sank down until I 1 only I their heads were above the dirt and filth of the cesspool I The driver In charge who was quite youthful was much excited and scarcely scarce-ly knew which way to turn But cooler heads soon came to his assistance as-sistance and efforts were made to release re-lease the struggling horses V In order to do this it was necessary to tear down a portion of the fence separating the I two yards Then the dilvcr of another coal wagon who happened to be passing I V pass-ing that way was summoned and I I with tho assistance of his strong team I the buried horses were finally dragged from their perilous position One of them was quite badly Injured a3 so lame he was scarcely able to walk Both the animals were simply covered with the filth of the cesspool They were In their dangerous position for fully half an hour and their rescue was made till the more difficult from the fact that the ground was wet and each struggle made by the horses to escape seemed to bury them but deeper in the mire |
