Show = ± TI I BISHOP THOMAS J STEVENS DEAD I I y it1riTa I cTJ I 4 ii 1M i 4 it rAn 1 I An Old and Respected Citizen of Ogden and Officer in the National Guard of Utah Bishop Thoirias 3 Stevens died yesterday yes-terday morning at 430 oclock at the family residence corner of Jefferson and Twentysixth street of Ogden Bishop Stevens his been critically H with cancer of the liver for nearly a year and during the past few weeks ft has seemed but a question of a few hours when he must give up the struggle strug-gle for life Few indeed are the men in Ogdcn who were better known He has been a resident of Ogden during the past twentythree years and during nearly nil that periotl 1 has occupied positions of public responsibility and trust In the early days of tho t city he was Sher If of Weber county afterward deputy City Recorder and the City Recorder fpr a number of years In his let I business life he found time for public duties and during the past five years was Colonel of the Utah National Guard on the staff of Got Vcls Natonal A man of great business ability sterling character and tireless energy he will be greatly missed by his asso elates in public affairs as well as sin cerely mourned by all who knew his upright life Thomas J Slovens was born In Bristol England January 24 1SS His parents were Jacob and Eliza Stevens Since coming to Utah in 1S77 he has been closely identified with the Interests Inter-ests of this section of the Slate Two brothers I a devoted wife and Jive children ale left to mourn for him Since coming to Utah he has ever been a consistent and zealous laborer In his church and during the past ten years has been bishop of the Fifth ecclesiastical ecclesias-tical I ward tca Funeral services will be held from the Tabernacle at 2 oclock Sunday afternoon af-ternoon OFFICER IN THE N G UTile U-Tile National Guard Is mourning one of its most respected and elllclcnt officers cers in tho death of Thomas J Stevens The deceased held the position of Commissary Com-missary General with the rank of Colonel in the Guard which organization organiza-tion ho has been connected with for many years An order was issued 1 from headquarters headquar-ters yesterday directing all commissioned commis-sioned officers of the Guard to wear the usual badge of military mourning knot of black crepe upon the sword hilt for a period of ten days A request re-quest Is also mado that as a further mark of respect all stall and line officer cer attend the funeral service at Og den tomorrow at 2 p m |
