Show APfURErr p t EN OLIVIER HE WAS TAKEN BY BRITISH IN II I I DRAMATIC WAY I j I Eight Queenstown Volunteers Took i I II I the General and His Sons and Stood I Off 200 Boers London Sept IA Queenstown dispatch dated yesterday describes the dramatic capture of Gen Olivier during dur-ing the Boer attack on WInberg Eight Queenstown volunteers sorted from the town and took up a position In a donga through which the road passed and behind I hind the Boer position As the Boers retired through tho I donga In single file they were stuck up one by one and put in charge of a couple of men out of sight until the Colonials had captured twentyeight including Gen Olivier and his three includIng sons I As 200 Boers were following behind In fairly close order the Colonials then began hard volley firing with the result re-sult that they killed six Boers and frightened off the others who had no idea of the actual number in the donga MOVEMENT BRITISH TROOPS Lord Roberts under dated Belfast August 29th reports to the War ofllce as follows Bullcr telegraphs from Helvetia that only a few of the enemy are there and that this morning French and Pole Carcws forces will moe on their flank The advance ot Dundonalds mounted troops on their front caused them to abandon a very strong position The country thus cleared our troops moved eastward The South African light horse after little opposition entered en-tered Watcrvalhoven and drove the remnant of the enemy through the town Frenchs column reached Doornhoek overlooking Watervalhoven with slight oppposltlon Dundonald with Slrath conas horse Is I further near Noolt Gadacht Wo have occupjed Waterval hoven and Watercaldon Buller reports re-ports that Noolt Gadacht Is apparently deserted except by British prisoners who are passing In a continuous stream up the line toward Watervalonder No Boers are visible The natives report that KruRcr and all the commandos left yesterday for Pilgrims Rest French reports the railway Intact as far as Watervalonder except for a small bridge near the station which has been destroyed PRISONERS RELEASED The following dispatch has been received I re-ceived at the War ofllce from Lord Roberts Belfast Aug 31 About 1800 British prisoners released at Noolt Gedncht have reached French and PoleCarow They are badly clothed and some arc said to be half starved Ambulances are out picking up many of tho sick and weakly ones The captured officers of-ficers are reported to have been taken to Barberton Some o them escaped Including thc Earl of LrCltrlm and Viscount Vis-count Enniamore The prisoners report that Krugor Stoyn Botha Lucas Meyer and Schalkburgcr left Noolt Gcdacht August 20th for Nclspruit The I Boers seem to be scattering L |
