Show R VALLEY 3Y PROP GARD t NISHED Samof the Soil Sent to Washington Wash-ington Prof Gardner Will Now Examine Soils of Weber County Pro Frank JD Gardner soil expert of the United States Department of Agriculture arrived lost evening from the Scvler valley where he has been for Ihe past summer examining the I soil on the same plan as bin investigations Investiga-tions of the previous summer in the Suit Littko valley Ills scope of operations opera-tions inculdecl a section of Country for tyfive miles long and covering 1GOOOO acres and he finds that tho soil Is a sandy loam well adapted to cultivation cultiva-tion and susceptible of great development develop-ment Prof Gardner has prepared data for soil and alkali maps and while considerable con-siderable alkali was found still the character and makeup of the soil wan such as to make it possible to wash the alkali out by Irrigation to the subsoils below and then into the river and away The experts examinations took In the soils to five feet In depth and the fleld work is now completed Samples Sam-ples of the soils have been sent to Washington for complete analysis by the chemists In the Government laboratories labor-atories there and the maps will be prepared next winter Prof Gardner is now en route to Weber county where he will examine the soils here lie is being assisted by 1 a young man from Washington and Marcy 31 Lapham of the experiment station at Logan |
