Show JORDAN STAKE < OUTING I THE OLD FOLKS WERE GUESTS I OF HONOR Event Was n Most PleasafatsOnc Oldest Lady Was Mrs Mary A Wright of Draper Aged 97 4 The people of the Jordan stake had an outing at the Lagoon yesterday and all of the old folks of the stake were gU sls of honor on the occasion They were royally entertained by those who hrfd special charge of the days festivities festivi-ties and every kindness and consideration considera-tion was shown to the respected veterans There were upward of 1000 Jpiclan stake people at the resort and about loO of them weic over 70 years of ago which fact entitled them to free transportation free luncheon on the grounds and free access to all of the attractions of tho resort Thd train arrived at the resort too late to admit of the excellent sporting programme that had been arranged being carried out The first hour or two after noon wcie devoted to picnicking and general exchange of good fellowship fellow-ship During this time also the old folks were banqueted by committees selected from each ward of the stake Following this came a programme In the pavilion specially arranged for the old folks C C Crnpo had charge of this part of the entertainment The Old Folks choir of the stake sang How BcaUjtiful Upon the Mountains and opening prayer was offered Ad dresses were made on subjects appropriate appro-priate to the occasion by O P Miller president of the Jordan stake and Angus M Cannon president the Salt Lake stake Mrs Burnham and James E Moss rendered excellent recitations and a beautiful duet was given by the Misses Goff The Old Folks choir sang an original selection composed for the occasion by Ilyrurn Goff entitled Our Old Folks Benediction was pronounced pro-nounced by James Jenson A prize was awarded to Mrs Mary A Wright of Draper 97 years of age who was the oldest lady on the grounds She had a daughter present Mrs Betsy Wright Pinder who Is 71 years of age A second daughter Mrs Harriet Shipley of Draper 70 years of age was alsa there aiRa John S Smith of Kaysville 01 years of age was awarded the prize for be ing the oldest man on the she s-he Jordan stake people spent a most pleasant afternoon and left the Lagoon on the return trip at G oclock In a train made up of nineteen cars all heavily loaded I was the heaviest train ever taken out of tho resort yards I was run as a special to connect with lie Short Line train south from Salt Lake which carried the tired and happy excursionists back to their homes The theological class of the Twenty first ward Sundayschool in charge of Instructor Benjamin Goddard spent yesterday afternoon and evening pleasantly pleas-antly at the Lagoon |
